Readings for Secondary Schools

Interactive Story Workshops in Schools!

How to write a story!

I will break down the process of story writing to its constituent parts. Each child will start with a piece of paper and, by the end, have the bare bones for a fantastic story.

Incentives!

I have first-hand knowledge of the publishing world which I am happy to share through my book Oscar the Ferry Cat, published by Select Books and a variety of my twelve self-published books, interactive power-points and discussion. I come equipped with a variety of animals that are associated with each of my different stories and provide creative inspiration. This alllows the children to explore identity, habitat and conservation. I also bring a selection of flowers which opens discussion about the environment and plant recognition.

I bake shortbread biscuits which I share with the children too. (Allergies can be catered to)

One lucky child will win an exclusive signed picture book.

Every child receives a bookmark. Bookmarks are an important tool to incentivize reading for children, and act as a promotional tool for me!

Activities!

I will explore how one creates a story and the different components that go into creating one. This begins with favorite names and continues with animals, places, professions, what’s important to you, what makes people happy or sad and hopes for the future.

Follow On!

Children can write up the stories based on their notes and illustrate.

The Boring Bits!

I charge £200 per workshop ideally (but if that’s an issue I’m prepared to negotiate.)

I ask for the opportunity to take book orders.

The workshops are suitable for any class from year 5 upwards. The sessions last for about 40 minutes but this can be adapted to suit. They can be performed for any number of children; I don’t need anything other than a bit of floor space!
